Wild Isles: Daneway Banks’ Large Blue butterflies star in Attenborough series
Daneway Banks is a nature reserve renowned for its large blue butterflies and is featured in the third episode of Sir David Attenborough’s new BBC series, Wild Isles.
Based near Sapperton, Daneway Banks is co-owned by the Royal Entomological Society and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, and is home to the largest known population of the large blue butterfly species in the world.
Sunday’s episode of Wild Isles will show the nature reserve’s work to reintroduce the once-extinct butterfly.

Exclusive Members-Only Trip to Daneway Banks

The RES is excited to partner with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) on a Members-only exclusive joint meeting to Daneway Banks Nature Reserve. Numbers for this trip are limited to 15 members from each society, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Accessibility:
Daneway is a sloping reserve and suitable for those with good mobility, as it’s steep in places and there are gates and stiles.
