Have your contribution to insect science recognised and develop your career and interests. Support others with your expertise and take the first steps to joining our global fellowship network.

Fellowships are awarded to recognise entomologists for their experience and achievements. By becoming a Fellow, you will gain the recognition of your peers for your contribution to entomology and qualify to use the postnominal letters FRES.

You also have the opportunity to contribute to our policy workpublications and committees as a member of our learned society.

By becoming a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, you are joining a prestigious and historic scientific fellowship of important entomologists around the world from past and present, including Charles Darwin FRES and Miriam Rothschild FRES. You will be given opportunity to add your name to our historic Obligations Book of Fellows at your next Ento annual conference.

Fellowship Application Guidance and Criteria

The Royal Entomological Society Fellowship application process is designed to recognise significant contributions to the field of entomology. The criteria have been developed to ensure a fair, transparent, and inclusive assessment process. Below are scoring criteria to help with the structure and understanding of key areas of evaluation.

The assessors of your application will focus on three core areas: Work, Impact, and Community. Each area is broken down and weighted as follows:

  1. Work (50%)
    • Research contributions: Peer-reviewed and other specialist publications (up to five examples).
    • Educational and practical contributions: Course development, consultancy, and recorded field contributions.
    • Responsibilities: Activities such as skills development, agronomy, IPM, and other significant contributions to entomological work.
  2. Impact (25%)
    • Engagement: Activities like mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advocacy for sustainability.
    • Policy and outreach: Contributions to policy-making, media engagement, and community outreach.
    • Innovation and collaboration: Conference participation and development of intellectual property.
  3. Community (25%)
    • Governance and service to RES: Contributions to RES governance, committees, or advisory roles.
    • External governance: Participation in entomology-related governance or committees outside of RES.
    • Recognition: Awards, public speaking engagements, and acting as a spokesperson in entomology.

This process aims to enhance transparency, recognise diverse contributions to entomology, and provide applicants with clear and structured guidance for their submissions. For further details on the application process, please refer to the application form and FAQs.
