Professor Janet Hemingway is a British infectious diseases specialist, founding Director of iiCON and Professor of Tropical Medicine at LSTM. She is also a Senior Technical Advisor on Neglected Tropical Diseases for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Professor Hemingway was awarded the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the Control of Tropical Disease Vectors 2012 and was made a fellow of the Royal Society and an International Fellow of the Academy of Sciences USA in 2010.
A native of West Yorkshire, Professor Hemingway is a distinguished specialist who, as an undergraduate, was inspired to study how mosquitoes become resistant to insecticide. The youngest woman to become a professor in the UK, she is now a global leader in the field.
